I spent the summer before my senior year in Ithaca as a marketing intern for the Downtown Ithaca Alliance. I worked with the Marketing Director at DIA to help promote events in the Downtown Ithaca area and community online, on social media and in the field.

My biggest responsibility was working hands on with downtown businesses to create sales and events to promote downtown tourism. This meant going to different restaurants and shops every day to help them think of unique ways to get involved with our downtown events.

During the month of June, many of the restaurants downtown participated in a week long event called Bite of Ithaca, where they offered a menu of $5 "bites" to encourage locals to try new restaurants. To prep for this, I helped restaurants prepare their own menu, and then I put all of them together to make this "passport" for the week:

Every time a restaurant was visited, the customer could receive a stamp, and once they got three stamps, were entered to win a $150 gift card to all the downtown businesses.

I created a city-wide Game of Thrones scavenger hunt and promotional materials for Welcome Weekend for Cornell University and Ithaca College freshmen. I helped work with the colleges to organize a weekend that would introduce all the freshmen to the downtown area, and prep the businesses with sales and promotions.

I also created social media posts for Facebook and Instagram to promote downtown events and made the Facebook events for all downtown events for businesses and groups. This allowed me to interact with potential businesses as well as the people that would attend the events.
